Where to Retire in Europe: France, Portugal, Spain, and Italy Compared
France, Portugal, Spain, or Italy for retirement? An evidence-based comparison for Americans: taxes, healthcare, visas, cost of living, and estate planning, with the numbers.
Your concierge is a real person who already knows your situation. Forward the confusing letter, the expired login, the surprise fee — it comes back explained, and moving again. When something needs a specialist, we bring in the right one and manage it end to end, with the cost agreed before any work starts.
Included in every membership, all year — never billed by the question.
Real questions from members. This is what the concierge is for.
We track the deadlines and paperwork that come with living in France — permit renewals, both countries' tax filings, healthcare paperwork — and start early, before anything turns urgent.
A confusing letter. A banking issue. A CPAM question. Instead of hunting for where to start — or waiting on an answer that never comes — you send it to someone who already knows your situation.
When it takes specialist advice — an immigration lawyer, a cross-border CPA, an estate planner — we bring in the right vetted partner and coordinate start to finish, with the cost agreed up front.
Membership is designed to be your first call — whatever comes up, start with us. The full list, with specialist work always quoted before it starts:
Upload a document and it's read on the spot: named, dated, filed to the right person, and checked against what French administrations actually require.
Clocks arm themselves from your real dates. The renewal ladder runs from the expiry date on your actual card, not a date someone typed.
The calendar around your file keeps moving. Software re-checks as deadlines approach and puts anything out of place in front of a specialist.
You don't have to keep watch anymore — someone who knows your situation does.
Membership runs one year and never renews automatically — we'll invite you to renew before it expires. The year is prepaid and non-refundable, and one membership year includes one tax-filing year (the year your membership is active on December 31, Paris time). Tax filing covers the standard case: one US federal return, one state return where required, the French annual return, and standard foreign reporting. Anything beyond that is explained and priced with you before any work begins. The full scope is in our Terms of Service.
Thirty minutes, free, no pitch. A consultation often ends with “you don't need us yet” — and we consider that a good outcome. If Membership is the right fit, you'll leave knowing exactly what we'd take over, and when.
